Can Slumping Japanese Exports Hammer Japan ETFs? What About Retail ETFs?

Year-over-year, Japanese exports to the U.S. and China are down 40% and 30% respectively. Moreover, some countries ( e.g., Canada, China, etc.) have been creating protectionist legislation. Could a breakdown in trade spell trouble for Transportation or Retail ETFs? What about Japan ETFs?
