Prior to the dot-com collapse circa 2000-2002, most of the financial world laughed at moving averages (trendlines). Prior to the credit crisis debacle, the majority still socffed at the idea the technical analysis had merit.

Very few people are laughing these days. More and more feel that moving averages are solid tools for increasing market awareness.
